"Hey there! How you're doing today??"
This is probably the phrase that you hear the most in the US. Every time you enter a store or buy a cup of coffee, someone will ask you about your condition. Not that the people really wanna know, it's just nice and formal to ask someone about it. If you answer with something different than "great" or "fine", they look at you in bewilderment...scared that you might really wanna tell them something personal....a superficial paradox ??
Yesterday I went to Stanford University to meet my professor Dr. Fellner. She is supporting me in writing my thesis and also got me the invitation to Stanford by Dr. Bermann, head of Stanford's German department, who I met at a little reception with free food and drinks...But my prof and me didn't have the time to stay there because she had to do her lesson and invited/forced me to come with her since there are only 2 people in class and the topic also fits my needs - CSI: Vienna, American culture in Austria since the 1980s...basically it is a revision of cultural studies' terminology for me, which is a good thing since I have forgotten most of the basic terminology...and it is also cool to say "I did a course on American culture in Austria at Stanford"...
Today, I went to university pretty late because I had a long skype call with my mum....When I stepped outside, it was so cold that I had to get a jacket...and I thought in California you don't need a jacket!?
I went to uni by bus, the Marguerite shuttle service executed by Stanford University for free...because the campus is soo huge that you can't walk around for real....
Then I went to the Green library (I already posted a pic showing the building's outside) and I was even more impressed...it is really im
mense, only books and when I saw the reading room, I fell in love!! So beautiful! I mean in this atmosphere, it is clear that some smart thoughts can prosper!!
I found some important books about Hunter S. Thompson that I need to read. I started reading Hunter S. Thompson by William McKeen, a professor at the University of Florida, who Im going to do an interview with as soon as I know which way I wanna go with my thesis. I finished this book and loaned another one called Outlaw Journalist, again by McKeen, to read it at home....
I also had a nice idea. I wanna approximately count all the pages that read in my time here. Today, I did about 110 pages. Not included the pages that Im going to read before going to bed....However, I will keep you updated on the amount of pages I read...
Here a pic of me on my way home...I look a bit GONZO I guess....
Ok, not so much interesting stuff...tomorrow library again...and now BED!!!
Good night and good look!
And I really appreciate comments....because I don't know if anyone reads the blog at all...you don't need to sign up!! So go ahead....
