Better living through Chemistry...

Dear imaginary friends...

My day was kind of boring. But I guess I think too much sometimes...

I woke up late today, the bed with the electric blanket (or heating blanket as we might call it) is too cozy to leave it...so I stayed...
At 10 a.m, I had my usual breakfast that consists of muesli with one banana, an apple and some nuts, a cup of Earl Grey tea, 2 slices of toast with salted butter and sometimes some orange marmalade...exciting, huh?

After talking to my mum and some friends on skype, I prepared myself for going to the library...Before hopping on the free shuttle bus at the Stanford Shopping Center, I bought a cup of Vanilla Latte at Starbucks. I just love this coffee and in comparison to Austria where you pay at least 4€ for a cup, it is really cheap here, at least half of the price....
I was surprised when the girl at the cashier asked me for my name. They write the name on the cup to distinguish whose order it is...In Austria you need to show them the receipt...
So I carried around a personalized Starbuck paper cup...

I went to the library and read in the book "Outlaw Journalist" by William McKeen, which is really funny...From time to time I catch myself laughing about Hunter S. Thompson's statements...for example:
"So are you guys really Nazis?" (a person asks Thompson about the Hell's Angels)"Not me", Thompson replied, "Im Kiwanis." from his Hell's Angels book
"First, I do not live from orgy to orgy, as I might have made you believe. I drink much less than most people think and I think more than most people believe. Im basically antisocial." HST says in a letter to a friend, a feeling I can largely understand.
And when I start laughing, the people who sit at the table with me, look at me as if I was really weird...and then I smile and hide in my book again...
I also found out that Thompson called himself doctor because he had bought a doctor-of-divinity degree for 5$ from an ad in a newspaper and for the rest of his life he called himself Dr. Thompson, the Good Doctor.

Well, after reading until 5.30 p.m. I went to the Stanford bookstore to check out the book they have there...and when I looked at the cultural studies section, I was shocked by this...
A book about the Emo culture...Oh cmon! Emoculture...where is the culture in emo?? This is ridiculous. This is a book for parents who are scared that their kids become punk when they eventually find out that they are only emo...but then don't know, what the hell that means...
However, I have heard that emo is out and Visual Kei is the new trend...but you know what, I don't give flying fuck...
Excuse my rudeness but constant reading is confusing my brain cells and they temporarily shut down...

When I was on the bus on my way home, I looked at people on the campus and after some days that Im here, I came to the conclusion that there are so many Asian people here and they all or at least the majority of them wear glasses...I always thought that Asians are more hardworking than me, for example, but I don't why...I guess this is a thing you can assume if you hear some stuff about Asians such as 2 weeks of holidays in year...However, this doesn't explain the glasses...or maybe they read so much that their eyesight suffers...but maybe Im just thinking in stereotypes, which I should not do...I am, after all, a student of cultural studies...

When I arrived home, I made myself some rice with tuna and because I'm in US, the land of sugar and fat (stereotypes again!!), I tried to eat a muffin I've bought at Saveway's, the grocery store Im buying my stuff at...It really tasted awful! Just sweet and the blueberries inside were dry and tasted chemically..argh! Never again! But if, only freshly made ones from the bakery...
While chewing on the sugary bugger, I watched 2 episodes of My Name is Earl...my favourite TV series of all time...If you don't know it, please have a look...you can watch the episodes online at http://www.freeonlineepisodes.net/watch-my-name-is-earl-online-episodes-for-free/
Jason Lee is doing an amazing job with this stuff!!

Concerning music, Im again on a Queens of the Stone Age trip. I really liked their album Songs for the Deaf and also the Lullabies to Paralize. I did struggle with their latest record, Era Vulgaris, though...I listened to it several times while being in Italy...but I never got into. it..until now...and now Im hooked...they have the fatest stoner rock riffs ever...I get all electrified when I listen to Sick Sick Sick or Im Designer (a great piece of social criticism!!)...because they always have a great melody and I like melodies...

Now I'll watch another movie and read a bit more...my eyes already are swollen in their sockets...

To be honest, Im getting a bit bored...the excitement of the first days is gone and now Im all alone in the library, hiding in my best friends and reading at least 200 pages a day...I seem to get bored easily and I don't have my guitar or anything except for books and my Mac to waste time...and after a day in the library I don't feel much like going to Downtown Palo Alto, alone to get a beer or something...and I haven't met anyone who I'd like to get a beer with...
So I plan to go to San Francisco on Saturday to get some distraction from books and the university...
If anyone of you has any friends in the Bay Area that you would not feel sorry for having a beer with me, let me know, maybe I could hook up with them...

Well, good night and good luck!
